Music comes alive once again on the Tropical island of Penang from the 1st to 4th of December 2011!
The initial Penang Island Jazz Festival which began in 2004 has seen a steady growth through the years. From a 2 day/ 1 stage event, this year’s 8th edition of the festival will be held over 4 days from the 1st to 4th of December 2011 with performances on 1 Main Stage, 5 Fringe Stages, 1 Sundown Stage and a number of supporting activities.
The “Jazz By The Beach Stage” held in an Outdoor “Concert” setting features local and international performances. The acts performing on the “Jazz By The Beach Stage” this year are “SHAKATAK”, “Ulf & Eric Wakenius – Father and Son”, “Yuri Honing Wired Paradise”, “Nina Van Horn”, “Rusconi”, “Espen Eriksen Trio”, “Michaela Rabitsch & Robert Pawlik Trio”, “Eva Bjerga Haugen”, “Amir Yussof Acoustic Project”, “Jiyoung Lee Quartet”, “Rio Sidik Quartet” and Penang’s own “Fred Cheah & The JazzHats”.
Keeping in line with the intention of creating a “total music festival experience”, a number of supporting musical activities are held in conjunction with the festival such as the afternoon Fringe Stage programmes held in 5 different venues (Bayview Beach Resort, Hard Rock Hotel, ParkRoyal Penang Resort, Lone Pine Hotel and G Hotel), Indie “Sundown” Programme at Tropical Spice Garden, “An Evening With” sessions @ G Spot, Music Workshops, The Island Jazz Forum with a panel comprising of individuals from Foreign Jazz Media and Festival Organization, Jazz Gallery Exhibition of Posters, Photographs, Paintings and Percussions featuring a photography exhibition by renowned jazz photographer – Ziga Koritnik, “Jazz With A Heart” Charity Dinner, Creative Malaysia Showcase, Jazz & Poetry sessions, “10 minute” Platform, Band On The Move, “BatuJazz Spins”, Creative Malaysia Programme, Community Drum Circle and After Hours Jazz Jam.
